History of the Maryland Lottery
Pick 3 - Welcome To The Ohio Lottery ! :: The...
The Maryland Lottery was established by popular vote in 1972 and began operating in January 1973. Since then, the Lottery has offered several well-loved games and produced several big winners. In 2012, a three-member lottery pool from the Old Line State won a share of the record-breaking $656 million Mega Millions jackpot. Each winner opted for a lump sum payment worth $35 million. Maryland is also one of the few states in the U.S. that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous.
Today, the Maryland Lottery helps provide vital funding for public health and safety, human resources, education and environmental initiatives throughout the state. An amazing $16.7 billion in revenue has been allocated to these good causes and over $21.2 billion has been distributed to players in the form of prizes.
